Our Legacy of Innovation: From SHAHER to Tank

In 1949, Abd’Allah Sallam founded SHAHER (Middle East Co. for Engineering & Radio), a pioneering company in Egypt’s electronics sector.

A dramatic turn of events occurred in 1963 when SHAHER was nationalized, forcing Abd’Allah Sallam – at just the age of 46 – to rebuild from the ground up.

By 1968, his passion for manufacturing sparked a new era, with the production of Egypt’s first electric water heater under “Olympic" brand.

In 1981, Abdallah Sallam decides to retire and hands the business over to the second generation, bringing in new energy and vision to the business.

In 1989 launched the first Ice Tank, laying the foundation of what would later become “Tank”, the no.1 water solutions brand in Egypt.

In 1998 Olympic Group acquired IDEAL company.

In 2001, “Tank” brand was officially born a bold beginning marked by innovation, quality, and trust.

The journey continued with the establishment of Minlo Manufacturing Company in 2005.

In 2008, Minlo became the exclusive distributor of BRAUN in Egypt, expanding its product offerings beside the water business.

In 2010, Minlo acquired KOLDAIR, Egypt’s largest brand of water dispensers, and introduced a wider range of water dispensers and stainless steel coolers, strengthening its leadership in water solutions.

By 2016, Tank became the market leader in water filters, dispensers, coolers, and ice boxes.

And in 2025, Tank enters a new era, expanding beyond water into the Small domestic Appliances (SDA) market, to continue our mission of enriching everyday living through offering convenient, reliable and trusted solutions that ensure wellness and have a positive impact on people’s daily lives.
